About

I'm Rashida McCoy

I'm a massage therapist, Yomassage therapist, intuitive practitioner, circle facilitator, and homeschooling mother of two. I've been practicing massage therapy since 2012. I'm also the person behind Sacred & Rooted—a space that feels, in many ways, like all the different pieces of my life finally finding somewhere to belong.

My path here wasn't particularly straight.

In my early twenties, I was searching. I worked in restaurants and behind bars. I traveled. I went to school more than once thinking I would become a nurse. I studied Spanish for years. I tried different jobs and different directions, looking for the thing that felt like mine.

Massage was already part of my life during those years. I loved receiving massage—not because every massage was profound or life-changing, but because something happened when I got on the table. I paid attention differently. I learned things about myself. I could feel myself return to my body.

In some small way, I always felt like I was coming home to myself.

Eventually, I found myself behind the bar one day knowing that I couldn't keep moving through my life without any real sense of meaning or direction. I knew I wanted to help people; I just didn't know exactly what that was supposed to look like.

So I thought about the places where I had felt helped.

And I kept coming back to the massage table.

I enrolled in school and earned my two-year degree in massage therapy. At first, I treated it like a career I was learning. I studied the body, learned the techniques, and did the work.

But pretty quickly, I started noticing something else.

There were places in someone's body that would call my attention before I could explain why. My hands would go somewhere without me consciously deciding they should. I couldn't always describe my technique because I wasn't following a formula. I was listening—to the tissue, to the person on my table, and to something in myself that seemed to know where to go next.

I didn't have much language for intuition then.

I just learned to trust it.

Massage still wasn't my whole professional life. I moved into banking, where I discovered I was good at things there too—working with people, leading a team, building relationships. All the while, I continued doing massage and slowly building my own mobile practice alongside it.

Then I became a mother.

When my daughter was born, the question wasn't simply whether I could continue on the path I was on. I had to ask myself whether I wanted to.

I didn't want to spend my days away from her. My husband and I made the decision for me to leave my corporate career and stay home, and that decision created space in my life that I hadn't had before.

I began doing more massage and building relationships with clients in our new community. But I was also changing.

I began exploring my spirituality more deeply. I found teachers, training, and programs that helped me understand intuition, purpose, energy, spirituality, and the parts of myself I had sensed for years but hadn't always known how to name. That exploration led me into a much deeper season of spiritual awakening and self-discovery.

And suddenly, some of the things that had been happening in my massage room for years made a little more sense.

The knowing.

The images.

The places my hands were drawn.

The feeling that sometimes what happened on the table went beyond muscles and fascia.

Massage hadn't stopped being massage. I still had years of training, anatomy, technique, and experience beneath my hands. But I finally stopped believing I had to separate that knowledge from my intuition.

And somewhere along the way, I realized the thing I was creating wasn't only about massage.

Sacred & Rooted grew from that realization.

Sacred is the part of me that believes there is something divine within us—and that our bodies, our relationships, our questions, our creativity, our rest, and the ordinary ways we care for ourselves and one another can all be places where we meet it.

Rooted comes from a different part of my story.

I didn't grow up feeling deeply rooted to one place or with generations of family land beneath my feet. For a long time, I think I thought roots were something you inherited.

Now I understand them differently.

Roots can also be something you choose to grow.

Today, my family is doing exactly that on more than thirty acres in Orange County, Virginia. We're raising our children here. We're homeschooling. We're tending animals, attempting gardens, gathering around fires and tables, and learning the land as we go.

And I'm allowing Sacred & Rooted to grow the same way.

Sometimes it looks like massage and Bodywork. Sometimes it's a circle of women making fire cider together. Sometimes it's children gathered for a Learning Circle. Sometimes it's intuitive guidance, rest, conversation, food, sound, or simply sitting together on the land.

I don't know every form Sacred & Rooted will take yet.

I don't think I'm supposed to.

What I do know is that underneath everything I create is the same thing I found all those years ago when I climbed onto a massage table:

a way back to ourselves.

Come home to your body.

Come home to your curiosity.

Come home to one another.

Come home to the earth.

Come home to yourself.

I'm glad you're here.
